On display, November 26 through January 1, 2006

A life-size chocolate Santa Claus kicks off the holiday season at Bellagio.  Executive Pastry Chef Jean-Philippe Maury, at his namesake patisserie, created the dark and milk chocolate rendition of good ole Saint Nick.  Weighing 200 pounds and standing 5 feet tall, the edible masterpiece is perched above Jean-Philippe Patisserie for everyone to see.  The Santa took two weeks to create and will be on display through the end of the year.

Nevada Division of State Parks

Spring Mountain Ranch is located within the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, beneath the colorful cliffs of the magnificent Wilson Range. The many springs in these mountains provided water for Paiute Indians and later brought mountain men and early settlers to the area. This 520 acre oasis was developed into a combination working ranch and luxurious retreat by a string of owners who have given the area a long and colorful history. Past owners of the ranch included Chester Lauck of the comedy team "Lum & Abner," German actress Vera Krupp, and millionaire Howard Hughes.

LANCE BURTON’S LOCALS APPRECIATION WEEKS BEGIN – ONLY $35

Las Vegas ’ No. 1 family show offers all Nevadans a deal they can’t refuse

Tuesday kicks off the 2nd annual Local Appreciation Weeks from “Lance Burton: Master Magician” after last year’s one-week success of 2,000 locals taking advantage of the holiday special this year the show will do an extra week before the traditional holiday dark weeks.

Anyone with a Nevada I.D. can reserve tickets by calling (702) 730-7160 or visiting the theatre box-office or tickets & tours sales desk in the Monte Carlo Resort & Casino’s lobby. The $35 per ticket admission includes all taxes and other fees. This offer is good for all shows from Tuesday, Nov. 29th thru Saturday, Dec. 10th.  Show times for these two weeks are 7 p.m. Tuesday thru Saturday with added 10 p.m. shows on Tuesday and Saturday.

After Dec. 10th “Lance Burton: Master Magician” will be dark from Dec. 11-25 and reopening on Monday, Dec. 26th for 7 p.m. shows thru Sunday, Jan. 1st

Lance Burton will be riding and performing on the Rose Bowl Parade’s FTD Float on Monday morning of Jan. 2nd.  The regular price for the show is $72.55 plus a $3.00 handling fee so the pre-holiday savings is his way of giving back to the community.

After nine years the show’s theme has changed to “New Wonders Await!” Much of the show has changed while the mainstays such as the children participating in magic onstage and the fabulous Corvette – it flies, disappears and re-appears are still in the production.

Lance Burton has kept the best of the best of his magic for the 90-minute magical escape with the seven beautiful dancer-magician assistants and others who play in the cast and especially the talented comedian juggler Michael Goudeau.

Tournament of Roses Parade, 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 2, NBC. The 117th edition of the Pasadena parade includes performances by LeAnn Rimes, Toni Braxton and magician Lance Burton, along with the flower-bedecked floats, parade royalty and many horses.

Fun Holiday Facts

St. Lucia Day – To honor this third-century saint on December 13, many girls in Sweden dress up as “Lucia brides” in long white gowns with red sashes, and a wreath of burning candles on their heads. They wake up their families by singing songs and bringing them coffee and twisted saffron buns called “Lucia cats.”

Santa Claus – Santa Claus gets his origins from St. Nicholas, a generous man from the 4th century A.D. who helped the children and the poor, often throwing gifts through children’s windows to make them happy.  Brought to America by Dutch immigrants in the 1600s as “Sinter Klaas,” Americans soon began calling him “Santa Claus.”  Through the imagination of various authors and illustrators, Santa evolved into the fat, jolly, red-suited man from the North Pole we know today.

Kissing under the mistletoe – Kissing under the mistletoe, our favorite sprig of green leaves and white berries, dates back to a 17th century English custom.  At that time, a berry was removed every time a kiss was made, which meant there were no kisses when there were no berries.  We seem to have since forgotten about the berry removal – allowing us to fully concentrate on the kissing!
